Welcome! This homepage is dedicated to providing
the most complete and accurate source for scientific information
on the Gulf menhaden. The information included within reflects
the most current scientific data available on both the fish and
the fishery. The Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission has
worked hand-in-hand with the National Marine Fisheries Service,
the five Gulf States (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana,
and Texas), and the menhaden industry for many years to monitor
the Gulf menhaden stocks and is confident in the assessments provided
here. If you have any questions regarding this information,
please feel free to contact us here at the Commission office.

The 2013 Stock Assessment for the Gulf Menhaden
is available from the
SEDAR website. The latest assessment indicates that the
Gulf menhaden fishery is not overfished nor in an overfished state.
At the October meeting of the GSMFC, draft reference points were
approved for inclusion in the draft Fishery Management Plan (FMP),
which should be available for public comment in 2014.
